Description
Discover the delicious and flavorful Brazilian Picadillo, a hearty dish made with ground beef and a medley of vegetables.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 medium bell pepper, diced (any color)
- 1 medium tomato, diced
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 1/4 cup green olives, sliced
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Cooked white rice, for serving
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Stir in the diced bell pepper and tomato, cooking for another 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are softened.
- Add the frozen peas, raisins, green olives, tomato paste, soy sauce, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well and let it simmer for about 5-10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Serve the picadillo over cooked white rice.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add diced jalapeños or a pinch of red pepper flakes while cooking.
- Substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option, or use a plant-based ground meat alternative for a vegetarian dish.
