Description

Discover the delicious and flavorful Brazilian Picadillo, a hearty dish made with ground beef and a medley of vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium bell pepper, diced (any color)
  • 1 medium tomato, diced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup green olives, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooked white rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Stir in the diced bell pepper and tomato, cooking for another 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are softened.
  4. Add the frozen peas, raisins, green olives, tomato paste, soy sauce, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well and let it simmer for about 5-10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  5. Serve the picadillo over cooked white rice.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add diced jalapeños or a pinch of red pepper flakes while cooking.
  • Substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option, or use a plant-based ground meat alternative for a vegetarian dish.
