Description

Deliciously sweet and gooey, butter tarts are a classic Canadian dessert that features a flaky pastry crust filled with a rich mixture of butter, sugar, and eggs.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/4 cups unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups raisins or pecans (optional)
  • 1 package pre-made tart shells

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until smooth.
  3. If desired, fold in raisins or pecans.
  4. Arrange tart shells on a baking sheet.
  5. Pour the filling into each tart shell, filling them about 3/4 full.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the filling is set and the tops are golden brown.
  7. Allow to cool before serving.

Notes

  • For a more adventurous taste, try adding a splash of maple syrup to the filling.
  • Store leftover tarts in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
