Description
Savory Cauliflower and Beef Hand Pies that delight your taste buds.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups cauliflower florets, steamed and finely chopped
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 1 package (14 oz) refrigerated pie crusts (2 crusts)
- 1 egg, whisked (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large skillet, warm the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, cooking until the onion becomes soft and translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Incorporate the ground beef into the skillet, using a wooden spoon to break it apart. Cook until the meat is browned and fully cooked through, approximately 5-7 minutes. If there is excess fat, drain it off.
- Add the finely chopped cauliflower along with the cumin, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, sea salt, and black pepper. Stir well and let the mixture cook for another 2-3 minutes to meld the flavors together. Remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly.
- On a floured surface, roll out the pie crusts and cut out 4-inch circles using a round cutter.
- Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the beef and cauliflower filling onto the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over to form a half-moon shape and press the edges firmly to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges for a decorative finish.
- Arrange the hand pies on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush the tops with the whisked egg for a golden finish.
- Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the hand pies are beautifully golden brown.
- Allow them to cool for a few minutes before enjoying.
Notes
- For an extra kick, consider adding finely chopped jalapeños to the beef mixture.
- You can also swap the ground beef for ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
- Pair with your favorite salsa or guacamole for dipping.
