Description
A traditional Croatian dish featuring marinated beef, served with a rich and flavorful sauce.
Ingredients

- 2 pounds beef (such as chuck or brisket)
- 1 cup red wine
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 carrot, sliced
- 2 sticks celery, chopped
- 4 bay leaves
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon sugar
Instructions
- Marinate the beef in red wine, onions, garlic, bay leaves, pepper, and salt for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Remove the beef from the marinade and pat dry.
- In a large pot, heat olive oil and brown the beef on all sides.
- Add the marinade, tomato paste, broth, carrot, celery, and sugar to the pot.
- Simmer on low heat for 2-3 hours until the beef is fork-tender.
- Remove the beef and let it rest before slicing.
- Thicken the sauce if necessary, and serve over the sliced beef.
Notes
- Pašticada is best served with gnocchi or pasta.
- For extra flavor, consider adding prunes to the sauce.
