Description

Greek Kataifi is a traditional dessert made with shredded phyllo dough, filled with a sweet nut mixture, and drenched in syrup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package kataifi pastry
  • 2 cups walnuts, chopped
  • 1 cup almonds, chopped
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup sugar for syrup
  • 1/2 cup honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix walnuts, almonds, sugar, and cinnamon.
  3. Unroll the kataifi pastry and loosen the strands with your fingers.
  4. Brush a baking dish with melted butter and layer half of the kataifi pastry in the dish.
  5. Spread the nut mixture over the kataifi.
  6. Top with the remaining kataifi and drizzle with more melted butter.
  7. Bake for about 40-45 minutes until golden brown.
  8. While baking, prepare the syrup by boiling water, sugar, and honey until dissolved.
  9. Once the kataifi is out of the oven, pour the syrup over it while it is still hot.
  10. Let it cool before serving.

Notes

  • Make sure to keep the kataifi pastry covered while working to prevent it from drying out.
  • You can substitute the nuts based on your preference.
