Description

A traditional Icelandic fish stew made with cod and potatoes, seasoned with aromatic herbs.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound cod fillets
  • 2 cups potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon chopped dill


Instructions

  1. Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender; drain and set aside.
  2. In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat. Add onions and cook until translucent.
  3. Whisk in flour, then gradually add milk to create a thick sauce.
  4. Flake the cooked cod and stir into the sauce along with the potatoes, salt, and pepper.
  5. Simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring gently.
  6. Stir in the parsley and dill before serving.

Notes

  • Can be served with rye bread for a traditional touch.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
