Description

A delicious Greek dessert that combines the unique texture of kataifi pastry with a flavorful orange-infused syrup.


Ingredients

  • 1 package kataifi pastry
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix kataifi pastry with melted butter until well coated.
  3. Press half of the kataifi mixture into a greased baking pan.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together sugar, eggs, milk, orange juice, baking powder, vanilla extract, and orange zest.
  5. Pour the mixture over the kataifi layer in the pan.
  6. Add the remaining kataifi on top and sprinkle with walnuts if using.
  7. Bake for about 45 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. While baking, make the syrup by boiling sugar and water until it thickens, then add orange juice.
  9. Pour the syrup over the kataifi once it’s out of the oven.

Notes

  • Let the dessert cool completely before serving to allow the syrup to soak in.
  • You can serve it with whipped cream or yogurt on the side.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
