A delicious Greek dessert that combines the unique texture of kataifi pastry with a flavorful orange-infused syrup.

- 1 package kataifi pastry
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup orange juice
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- ½ cup chopped walnuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, mix kataifi pastry with melted butter until well coated.
- Press half of the kataifi mixture into a greased baking pan.
- In another bowl, whisk together sugar, eggs, milk, orange juice, baking powder, vanilla extract, and orange zest.
- Pour the mixture over the kataifi layer in the pan.
- Add the remaining kataifi on top and sprinkle with walnuts if using.
- Bake for about 45 minutes or until golden brown.
- While baking, make the syrup by boiling sugar and water until it thickens, then add orange juice.
- Pour the syrup over the kataifi once it’s out of the oven.
Notes
- Let the dessert cool completely before serving to allow the syrup to soak in.
- You can serve it with whipped cream or yogurt on the side.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
