Description
A delicious Keto-friendly recipe for German Bratwurst served with a creamy sauerkraut mash.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound bratwurst sausages
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup sauerkraut, drained
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon caraway seeds
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the bratwurst and cook for about 6-8 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned and cooked through. Remove the bratwurst from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and cook for about 5 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
- Stir in the sauerkraut and caraway seeds, cooking for another 2-3 minutes until heated through.
- Reduce the heat to low and add the heavy cream, stirring to combine. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Slice the bratwurst and return it to the skillet, mixing it with the sauerkraut mash. Cook for another 2 minutes to heat everything together.
- Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley.
Notes
- For added flavor, try adding a teaspoon of mustard to the sauerkraut mash.
- If you prefer a spicier dish, add some diced jalapeños or a pinch of red pepper flakes to the skillet when cooking the onions.
