- 8 large portobello mushroom caps
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup sliced pepperoni
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Clean the portobello mushroom caps with a damp paper towel and remove the stems.
- Place the mushroom caps, gill side up, on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Season the mushrooms with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and dried oregano.
- Spoon about 2 tablespoons of marinara sauce into each mushroom cap, spreading it evenly.
- Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese generously over the sauce in each cap.
- Top the cheese with sliced pepperoni or any other toppings of your choice.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.
Notes
- For a vegetarian option, substitute pepperoni with sliced bell peppers, olives, or spinach.
- Experiment with different cheeses like feta or goat cheese for a unique flavor twist.
