Description

A traditional Vietnamese beef stew that is rich in flavor and perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 2 pounds beef shank, cut into chunks
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons ginger, minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 1 daikon radish, sliced
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish


Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion, garlic, and ginger; sauté until fragrant.
  3. Add the beef chunks and brown on all sides.
  4. Stir in the tomato paste and cook for a few minutes.
  5. Add the beef broth, carrots, daikon radish, star anise, and cinnamon.
  6. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours until the beef is tender.
  7. Stir in the fish sauce, sugar, and salt to taste.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with fresh cilantro.
